Just back from making a visit to the University of Virginia Hospital. I experienced the same thing as when I made recent visits to the VCU Medical Center in Richmond (what is it with these elite hospitals?): a phalanx of people, standing around, smoking, outside a building in which there are people dying of lung disease!

I want to say: PEOPLE! I KNOW WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO DIE OF RESPIRATORY FAILURE!! IT'S NOT FUN!!! WHY ARE YOU VOLUNTARILY DAMAGING YOUR LUNGS??? WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU???

That's what I want to say.

But I don't.
